Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney Plus adds Kumail Nanjiani to cast – CNET

The cast of Obi-Wan Kenobi, revealed.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi show coming to Disney Plus will kick off production in April, Lucasfilm said Monday. It also revealed that Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Moses Ingram, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie have joined Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen in the upcoming Star Wars series.

The show, which doesn’t have a release date yet, will see McGregor returning to the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi. It’s set ten years after Revenge of the Sith (and 9 years before A New Hope), when the exiled Jedi is living on Tatooine. Christensen will also come back as Darth Vader — the fallen Jedi Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan’s former apprentice.

Of the newly announced cast members, Edgerton and Piesse will be familiar to Star Wars fans — they played Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. In the closing moments of the latter, the baby Luke Skywalker was given to them by Obi-Wan. So we’ll presumably see a 10-year-old Luke in the show.

Nanjiani, who’ll appear in Marvel’s Eternals later this year, and the others are new to a galaxy far, far away.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will be directed by Deborah Chow, who directed two episodes of The Mandalorian‘s first season– The Sin and The Reckoning. It’ll be executive produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Chow, McGregor and writer Joby Harold.
